Biography

Tsuyoshi "Wally" Shibata was born in Steveston, British Columbia, to Tatsunosuke and Fuji Shibata. He grew up in Steveston, Sanford and Ninette, Manitoba, Japan, and finally, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

He attended the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology in 1957, taking a job at Libling Michener Architectural Group where he worked as a draftsman for over 30 years.

Wally was very involved with the Japanese community and was awarded the NAJC National Merit Award for Invaluable Service to the Community in 1996. His extensive volunteer work with the Manitoba Japanese Canadian Citizens Association included 24 years with the monthly Outlook newsletter.
