More Information

A truly charming elementary school, École Crane serves an immersion population of 325 students in kindergarten to Grade four; it is the same design as the nearby Oakenwald School.

Design Characteristics

Suburb:Fort Garry
  • Constructed in 1955 of wood frame with face brick, it was built in two main sections meeting at the main entrance at a right angle, with the older section running along Crane Ave. and the slightly newer portion from either 1955 or 1958 running perpendicular to the rear along the west side
  • Although the original larger windows have been replaced, the facade retains its period character and grace, certainly enhanced with mature trees and carefully tended gardens; the school has benefitted from a high level of maintenance
  • It is in a large yard with woods behind; there is a good play structure and asphalt area
