2574 Portage Avenue was built in 1974 as the central office building for the St. James-Assiniboia School Division No. 2. Its architects were Pratt Lindgren Snider Tomcej Architects, a local firm with a modernist inclination. Like many buildings by the firm, 2574 Portage Avenue is a low and wide structure. It features vertically oriented Tyndall stone cladding set on a concrete base. Adding interest is an inset sheltered entryway adorned with a section of diagonally set wood – a detail popular in the 1970s. A sense of transparency typifies the building's lobby, which possesses full-height views to the south and north.
