Original Use:Education

Design Characteristics

Suburb:Westwood
  • Identical to Ness School built at the same time in 1965, Sansome School offers an interesting design that sees a profile of two sections each with a sloping and stepped roof joined in the front (east) centre section where angle and shadows, forms and volumes spar for space over a glassed entranceway and link between the two-storey sections, here faced in a deep brown brick over a steel frame
  • Currently an elementary school, it was built as a junior years school and so had shops and labs, mainly in the south wing, while the north wing has the classrooms expressed on the exterior by a steady pattern of window bays
  • Sansome is much as it was completed in 1965 and is in good repair
  • It shares a large site with the former Allard School (now the Winnipeg Police Academy) and Westwood High School
