Built to house the Winnipeg forensic facilities of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, this structure was completed in 1987. Situated in a rare Winnipeg site with a change in terrain, the wide, low, and horizontally-oriented building is consciously integrated into its setting. The building contains a number of elements which are trademarks of its architects, IKOY. These include the colourful highlighting of functional and structural aspects of construction. Here, most prominently, we find brightly painted chimneys (arranged and designed in a sculptural manner) adding a sense of delight to an otherwise utilitarian feature.
