More Information
Carpathia Elementary School is located one block east of Kenaston Ave. near the former Kapyong Baracks; by agreement with the federal Department of Defence, children living in military housing on the base as well as in the nearby civilian community attended here.
Design Characteristics
| Neighbourhood: | Sir John Franklin |
|---|
- The initial 14 classrooms and general purpose room were soon so overcrowded that an addition of six more classrooms was made in 1955; these are the west wing along Carpathia St. and another wing perpendicular and east along Lockston Avenue
- These sections are typical double-loaded corridor layout with a main entry where they meet; the school has seen quite a lot of alteration but an overall theme of grey brick helps to tie the sections together somewhat
- A large gym wing finishes up the north side which closes up the quadrangle with perhaps an asphalted interior yard
